Birmingham seek for a new manager replacement for Alex McLeish will leave St Andrew's

Birmingham have begun the process of looking for a new manager after appearing to accept that the club refused to accept McLeish's resignation on Monday, but acting chairman Peter Pannu is looking ahead.

Alex McLeish said, I am discussing the situation with (owner) Carson Yeung and there are at least 6 candidates on the radar and Aston Villa have been in contact about McLeish but it is believed Birmingham want up to £5.4m in compensation.

Names linked with replacing McLeish at St Andrew's include former Newcastle boss Chris Hughton and ex-West Brom manager Roberto di Matteo On Monday, Villa e-mailed Pannu with a view to assessing McLeish's availability.

ALEX McLEISH'S CAREER: Joined Aberden in 1976,Spent 15 years with the Dons, playing under Sir Alex Ferguson,Won 77 caps for Scotland,Managed Motherwell, Hibs and Rangers in Scotland,Guided Gers to domestic treble in 2003 and Guided Birmingham to Carling Cup triumph in February 2011, but Blues were relegated on final day of the season.

The former Rangers manager has two-and-a-quarter years remaining on the extended contract he will be signed in 2010 and having arrived at St Andrew's in a November 2007 and But it is understood that McLeish  currently on holiday in the Corsica  is a pursuing a case for constructive dismissal against Birmingham.
