Personal life for a Diego Maradona Snr and Dalma Salvadore Franco are parents and his father is of Native American extraction for his maternal great-grandfather Mateo Kariolic was born in Korcula, Dalmatia, today's Croatia for a possibly then in the Austrian Empire, and emigrated to Argentina, where Maradona's grandmother Salvadora was born and the citation needed Salvadora named her daughter Dalma after the Croatian region, after whom Maradona named his eldest daughter.

Maradona married long time fiancee Claudia Villafane on 7 November 1989 in Buenos Aires, after the birth of their daughters, Dalma Nerea is born on 2 April 1987 and Giannina Dinorah is born on 16 May 1989 and Maradona and Villafane divorced in 2004.

Drug abuse and health issues from the mid-1980s until 2004 Diego Maradona was addicted to cocaine and he allegedly began using the drug in Barcelona in 1983.
