Premier League has no room for a winter break, says chief executive Richard Scudamore

England head coach Fabio Capello has insisted a smash is essential if the national side is to do well. Capello's comments came after England's stoppage in the World Cup but Scudamore cannot see where the space in the packed out fixture calendar could be found for a winter break.

Scudamore said: ''We are open-minded to it but I don't see where the drive is going to come from for it.

''Mr Capello might desire one but I can't see where the impetus is going to come to reduce our league from 20 to 18 clubs.

''It would be daft to do that when you have a global property of our strength. We have 380 games and you're not going to go down to 306 - why are you going to do that when people like Uefa are mounting the number of dates of their competitions.
