2010 FIFA World Cup : “Of course I am sad, but I remain positive. I am hopeful that I will still be able to play” commented Brazil’s playmaking midfielder Elano following the news that he would miss Friday’s crunch quarterfinal match vs. Netherlands due to injury.

The midfielder is still battling an ankle injury he suffered vs. Ivory Coast in the group stages of the 210 FIFA World Cup.

Brazil’s team doctor, Jose Luis Runco, added further awful news for coach Dunga when he admitted Elano could miss the remainder of the tournament due to the injury.

Spain won against Honduras on June 21 at a score of 2-0. Spain, once again, won against Chile on June 25 at a score of 2-1. But, Spain lost to Switzerland last June 16 at a score of 0-1.

2010 FIFA World Cup: If you don’t know by now, England was eliminated from the FIFA World Cup by Germany, in part, a shocking decision by the match officials.

The match ended 4-1, so in some ways the goal that never was is academic, but it came at a critical time in the contest and England would have drawn level with the Germans had Frank Lampard’s strike gone in.

England were in the ascendancy and it would have changed the game. Now we will never know how it would have shifted.

In truth, Germany were a lot more incisive going forward and always looked the more likely to score. England was poor at the back and were vulnerable and they couldn’t cope with Germany’s movement.

2010 FIFA World Cup: Illegal Argentina Goal Sinks Mexico

http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/
2010 FIFA World Cup: Everybody loves Brazil.

Everyone adores Argentinean stars: Diego Maradona, Kempes, Roa, Caniggia, Crespo, Batitusta, and now Messi.

We’re delighted to watch these teams and players.

But we must abhor decisions that gift them undue advantage, especially in games like the FIFA World Cup, where the stakes are so high.

One must decry the bad officiating which has blighted this FIFA World Cup.

The Coulibaly fiasco, some questionable red cards, like the one Vs. Switzerland's Valon Behrami, Fabiano's goal from 2 hand balls, England's disallowed goal Vs. Germany, and Argentina's illegal goal this evening against Mexico especially stand out.

2010 FIFA World Cup: Soundoff: Did Fernando Torres Dive?

2010 FIFA World Cup: Hopefully we can all agree that Chile’s Marco Estrada did not deserve to be sent off for the above incident. Even though he was. Seems that whatsoever contact he made with Spain’s striker Fernando Torres – if any at all – was accidental. So referee Marco Rodriguez got it wrong.

The only question for me: How complicit was Torres complicit in this unjust sending off? Did Fernando Torres just trip over his own feet, or did he dive? The only evidence we’ve is the YouTube video above, and the .gif below:

I would say the .gif is the more incriminating for Torres, but that may be due to the fact it has him stuck in some sort of time loop, falling down for ever. The YouTube video suggests to me that Fernando Torres ran acorss Estrada’s path accidentally, causing El Nino to innocently trip over his own feet and What do you think?

FIFA World Cup 2010 : USA Wants More Than Just Respect

http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/
2010 FIFA World Cup: There is no way to describe what happened yesterday.

The United States were able to find the back of the net when all seemed lost.

The Americans were on the edge of elimination when Landon Donovan stepped up. Donovan’s 44th international goal couldn't have come at a better time.

His score in the 91st minute saved the United States from suffering the same fate it did 4 years ago in Germany.

The Americans entered the 2006 FIFA World Cup with high hopes.

In 2002, the United States upset Portugal, tied South Korea, and escaped the group stage with 4 points before defeating rival Mexico 2-0 in the 2nd round.

2010 FIFA World Cup Alert: World Champion Eliminated

http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/
http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/
2010 FIFA World Cup: Slovakia survived a late onslaught to beat Italy 3-2, reach the Round of 16 and eliminate their illustrious opponents. A Robert Vittek double and a stoppage-time lob from substitute Kamil Kopunek proved enough for Vladimir Weiss’s team to advance as Group F runners-up, after late goals from Antonio Di Natale and Fabio Quagliarella had ensured a dramatic conclusion to a thrilling contest in Johannesburg.

Slovakia went into the meeting at Ellis Park needing victory to progress. While Italy also required three points to guarantee a place in the knockout phase, they knew a draw would likely prove enough, as transpired to be the case. Disappointingly for the FIFA World Cup™ holders, the visionary Andrea Pirlo was only fit enough to make the bench, but Gennaro Gattuso and Di Natale were handed starts.

2010 FIFA World Cup: South Africa, France crash out of World Cup

http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/
2010 FIFA World Cup: South Africa beat France 2-1 for only their 2nd FIFA World Cup victory, but both teams ultimately emerged losers in Bloemfontein. Carlos Alberto Parreira's team became the 1st host nation to fail to qualify for the tournament's 2nd round, while a miserable campaign from the French came to a predictable conclusion as they also bowed out of South Africa 2010.

The African side's story was ultimately one of disappointment as they exited their own tournament on goal difference with Mexico taking the 2nd qualifying place in Group A behind Uruguay. For France there was further ignominy as a 2nd defeat in 3 games provided a fitting epitaph to the sense of disharmony which had infected Raymond Domenech's squad virtually since the opening game.

The beleaguered coach, who now leaves his post, made 6 changes to the team that had gone down to Mexico in their previous game – with captain Patrice Evra one of those dropped. Though, initially France promised to lift the gloom for their followers with some attacking thrusts.

2010 FIFA World Cup: Rampant Spain beats Honduras

http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/
2010 FIFA World Cup: A far superior Spain than the side than lost against Switzerland on their opening match in Group H, put 2 goals past Honduras thanks to a David Villa brace and restored a sense of normality in the camp and in the minds of their nervous supporters.

Villa went past 3 defenders in the 17th minute at Ellis Park and Honduras goalkeeper Noel Valladares got a touch on the rising shot but couldn't keep it out. Then some 5 minutes after the restart of the match after the break, David Villa scored his 40th goal with a shot from the edge of the area which was deflected off a defender and went over Valladares.

2010 FIFA World Cup: African challengers flop at World Cup

http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/
2010 FIFA World Cup: JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - A record six-prong African challenge at the first World Cup hosted by the continent has produced just 1 win from 12 matches and no guarantee of any country making the 2nd round.

Officials from African Football Confederation president Issa Hayatou down also former stars like Abedi Pele and George Weah expected at least 1 of the sextet to make the semi-finals.

That seems a distant dream as even powerful contenders Ghana as well as Ivory Coast face elimination while 1990 quarter-finalists Cameroon suffered the humiliation of being the 1st country eliminated from the month-long tournament.

http://southafrica-2010-fifa-worldcup.blogspot.com/
2010 FIFA World Cup: Fabio Capello Trying to Heal the Minds of the England Team as the Problem Lies in their Head.

What is wrong with England, that question has been on the minds of millions of fans also pundits worldwide for decades, but no one seems to be able to realize their problems. When Manager Fabio Capello took charge of the team, he inherited a team which had number of stars, but fresh from the disappointments of not being able to make it to the euro 2008, the Italian started on a positive note.

In a few friendly matches throughout the qualifying campaign, a number of commanding performances from England, gave some hope to fans and there was a feeling that yes they may have a good world cup campaign this time round. But, what transpired in the first two games was hardly what anyone had hoped for, very similar old headless chicken performance from the England team.
