Group D: Favourites overcome Ghana

Intended for an hour or so at the start of Group D, a trouble to the world order of women's U-20 football seemed to be taking place. Ghana, making their first exterior at this level, is leading USA, the time in power champions, 1-0 in Dresden and intimidating to add to their score. In the end the US saved a draw and since then has been more like their normal, winning selves, while Korea Republic matched them almost stride for stride in taking the second qualifying place. The West Africans, disappointed to miss out on a quarter-final berth, can yet take great heart from their performances. Merely Switzerland returned home with regrets.

The final standings
1. USA (7 points)
2. Korea Republic (6)
3. Ghana (4)
4. Switzerland (0)
